Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, and in Lucedale that means one thing: the whole town gets to play. Between candy on the sidewalks, haunts in the cornfields, a costume-friendly week at the library, and a Friday night road trip for the Rebels, there is a lot packed into these next few days. We pulled it all together in one place so you can plan your week, keep the kids happy, and still find time for a cup of coffee on Main Street.
As always, details can change, especially around weather. We have linked every source at the bottom of this article, so give the organizer a quick check before you head out the door.
The Big Night: Trick-or-Treat Hours Are Set
The question every parent in George County has been asking finally has an answer. The City of Lucedale is observing Halloween trick-or-treat hours from 5 to 8 PM on Saturday, October 31, according to an announcement shared by WXXV News 25. The city's own 2026 calendar of events had listed Halloween on its schedule with a note that hours would be announced closer to the date, and now they are official.
That three-hour window is the sweet spot. It starts while there is still a little light in the sky and wraps up early enough that little ones can get home, sort their candy, and maybe trade a few pieces before bedtime. The station's announcement encouraged everyone to come out in their best costumes with candy buckets in hand, and we could not agree more.
Trunk or treat, too. If you prefer a gathered, one-stop kind of evening, Temple of Praise Christian Center is hosting a trunk or treat during those same hours, 5 to 8 PM on Saturday, per the same WXXV report. Trunk or treats are a favorite in our area for good reason. They are easy on small legs, simple for grandparents to navigate, and a great way to see your neighbors all decked out. Check with the church directly for parking and any other details.
A Whole Week of Halloween at the Library
The Lucedale-George County Public Library at 507 Oak Street has quietly turned this into the most festive week of the year, and there is still time to join in.
Trick-or-Treat Week runs through Friday, October 30. Families can pick up a punch card at the front desk and complete a daily Ghost Hunt during regular library hours for a chance to win a prize. It is a perfect after-school stop, and it is a sneaky good way to get kids through the library doors and browsing the shelves.
Halloween Mahjong is today, Wednesday, October 28, from 3 to 5 PM. Players are encouraged to wear a costume or a festive outfit. The best-dressed table gets a special prize, and there are more prizes for players who score a Mahjong. Space is limited and registration is required, so call 601-947-2123 or stop by the front desk before you show up.
Teens get a creative night on Thursday, October 29, at 4 PM. Tweens and teens in sixth grade and up can make Halloween wire-wrapped jewelry. The library describes it as beginner friendly, with room for more experienced crafters to personalize their designs.
If your family already caught Tuesday's Story Time and Costume Parade or the Children's Costume Party and Contest, you know how much fun the library team puts into these events. The Jackson-George Regional Library System posts its Lucedale events online, and the branch is also on Facebook at @LucedaleGeorgeLibrary.
Looking ahead at the library: the branch also lists a number of regular programs, including Story Time every Tuesday at 10 AM, LEGO Club on the first and third Tuesdays at 4 PM, Bingo on the second Tuesday at 2 PM, and the Friends of the Library meeting on the first Thursday of each month at 3:30 PM. That puts LEGO Club on November 3, the Friends meeting on November 5, and Bingo on November 10.
Halloween Morning: The Farmers Market Is Open
Before the costumes come out, start Saturday the Lucedale way. The Fall Farmers Market is set up on Courthouse Square on October 31 from sunup to sellout, according to the George County Chamber of Commerce calendar. It is a fine way to stock up on local goodies, grab something for the evening's snack table, and say hello to the folks who grow and make what you are buying.
Good news for anyone who loves Saturday mornings on the square: the Chamber calendar shows the market continuing on November 7, 14, and 21.
Scares in the Cornfield: Seward Farms
For the brave (and the brave-ish), Seward Farms at 10836 Tanner Williams Road is hosting the final night of its Field of Fright on Saturday, October 31. According to the farm's website, the haunt starts at dark, and the last ticket is sold or admitted at 8:30 PM.
There are two ways to get your scare on. The Haunted Hayride takes you through the dark with eerie scenes along the way, and the Field of Fright walk-through sends you into a haunted corn maze. Each one is listed at $15 per person, or you can do both with the "Double the Scare" ticket for $20. Online tickets carry a small fee. The farm calls it a family event and notes that its actors are instructed not to touch guests, but it also reminds parents to consider what their own children can handle when it comes to fright.
Daytime fall fun at Seward Farms has been running on Saturdays from 10 AM to 6 PM, with the A-Maze-ing Pass listed at $18 for ages 3 and up and free for children 2 and under. The farm's pages list slightly different end dates for the fall season, so check the website or ticket page before you plan a daytime visit. The farm also notes it is open to the public on Saturdays only during its seasonal events.
Smile for the Camera: The Spooky Shoot on Main
Want a keepsake from all that costume work? The Spooky Shoot on Main is offering free costume photo sessions on a hand-painted Halloween set on Main Street in downtown Lucedale on Saturday, October 31, from 5 to 9 PM. There is no charge. You just reserve a free spot online at spookyshootonmain.com.
The Spooky Shoot is put on by local photographer Forrest Proctor as a way to give back to the community. It lines up nicely with trick-or-treat hours, so you can stroll downtown, snap a photo of the whole crew in costume, and keep the candy route rolling.
Friday Night: Rebels on the Road at Terry
The George County Rebels head north for a region matchup at Terry on Friday, October 30, with kickoff at 7 PM at Terry High School, 235 W Beasley Street in Terry. Tickets are on GoFan at $10 plus a $1 fee.
The Rebels are coming off a 32 to 7 loss to Hattiesburg at home on October 23, according to the Sun Herald's Week 9 scoreboard. The week before, George County rolled past Jim Hill 45 to 6. After Terry, the regular season closes at home on Thursday, November 5, against Forest Hill at 7 PM, according to published schedules. It is a long drive to Terry, but Rebel fans have never been shy about traveling. If you cannot make the trip, keep an eye on the team's social media and local radio for updates.
Ribbon Cuttings and New Doors on Main
Downtown keeps growing, and the George County Chamber of Commerce has a busy stretch of ribbon cuttings on the books.
- Something Sweet by Sweetie Pie has a ribbon cutting on Friday, October 30, at 627 Winter Street, Suite C. The Chamber calendar does not list a time, so check with the Chamber if you would like to attend.
- Calico House Mission Market follows on Friday, November 6, at 11 AM at 4298 Main Street.
- Jack's Home + Hardware cuts the ribbon on Tuesday, November 10, at 11 AM at 12101 Highway 63 South. Back in September, the George County Times reported on Jack's plans for a location change, expansion, and a new name, and this is the next step.
- Blue Willow and Grace celebrates on Friday, November 13, at 11 AM at 5183 Main Street.
Teel Magnolia Venue at 5191 Main Street also held its ribbon cutting on October 23, the day after hosting the Ducks Unlimited Banquet, according to the Chamber's calendar. Every one of these is a reason to shop local and welcome new neighbors to the business community. A ribbon cutting only takes a few minutes, and showing up means a lot to the owners.
Worth Knowing: Acadian Ambulance Now Serving George County
Here is a story that matters every day of the year, not just on Halloween. Earlier this month, WLOX reported that Acadian Ambulance is now handling 911 calls in George County, with new units, specialty transports, and a station in Lucedale. Porter Taylor, Acadian's vice president for the Gulf Coast region, told the station that the company plans to keep two units stationed in the city of Lucedale and move them around based on call volume to improve response times.
The most important takeaway is simple. Nothing changes about how you get help. Taylor told WLOX that residents should keep calling 911 just like always. The report also noted that Acadian was selected after county officials raised concerns about staffing and response times under the previous provider.
Don't Forget: Clocks Fall Back Sunday
After all that Halloween fun, you get a little bonus rest. Daylight saving time ends in most of the United States on Sunday, November 1, so clocks go back one hour. Your phone will handle it on its own, but the microwave, the oven, and the clock in the truck will need a little help. Many folks also use the time change as a reminder to test smoke detector batteries, which is never a bad idea.
Coming Up in November
Once the candy wrappers are swept up, November in Lucedale gets busy fast. A few dates to put on the fridge now:
- November 11: Veterans Day Parade on Main Street, per the Chamber calendar. City offices are closed for Veterans Day, according to the city's 2026 calendar.
- November 14: Gingham Tree Arts and Crafts Festival, 8 AM to 4 PM at the George County Fairgrounds, and the 5th Annual Scratching Post hosted by George County Amateur Radio Emergency Service, 8 AM to 6 PM at the American Legion Building, 130 Beaver Dam Road.
- November 21: The Arts Committee's inaugural Art Festival, 8 AM to 4 PM downtown around Teel Magnolia Venue, Kate Havard Park, and nearby side streets.
- November 28: Christmas Tree Lighting on Main Street.
You will find all of these and more on our events calendar, where you can toggle categories on and off to see just what matters to your family.
A Few Friendly Reminders for Saturday Night
None of this is new advice, but it is worth repeating when the streets fill up with little ghosts and superheroes. Give kids a flashlight or something reflective so drivers can see them. Walk with younger children and agree on a meeting spot with older ones. Drive slowly through neighborhoods and downtown, and watch for kids darting between cars. Check treats before anyone digs in. And most of all, take a minute to enjoy it. These are the nights our kids will remember.
See You Around Town
That is the beauty of a small town like ours. On one night you can buy tomatoes on the courthouse square in the morning, catch up with neighbors at a trunk or treat, take a family photo on Main Street, and end the evening screaming your way through a haunted cornfield. Whatever your plans look like, we hope you have a safe, happy Halloween.
Know about an event we missed? Use the "Submit an Event" button on our events page, and we will review it for the calendar. See y'all on Main Street.
